It’s official: eyebrow shaping is an art, and it’s being fueled in the beauty industry by the growing microblading trend. If you want your eyebrow game to be on point, all you need are a few expert microblading tips and tricks to perfect your craft.

It’s not easy to master the art of microblading and promote yourself to master eyebrow wizard.Just like waxing or tweezing (or the sheer willpower not to rip out all your eyebrows and startfrom scratch), you’ll only get better through practice and patience.Ready to dive into the best thing ever to happen to your eyebrows? Consider these seven

microblading tips and tricks to perfect your technique:

1 - Don’t Skip Color Swatching

This is Microblading 101. Eyebrow color matters more than you might think (because have you ever seen someone whose eyebrows looked oddly out of place? It’s hard not to notice!).

It’s not just a matter of matching your pigment color to the current brow color. Skin undertones can affect how the brow colors look. Plus, your clients may want to go darker or lighter than the color they were born with.

Start by creating some color swatches and consult with your clients to find the best results.Make sure you’re testing on skin that doesn’t have any makeup so you don’t get any falsereadings.

2 - Don’t Rush Your Mapping!

Mapping (also called brow mapping or pre-draw) is the process where the brow artist creates the perfect brow shape before microblading. This is arguably the most crucial step in the entire process. This is where the artist finds the optimal high and low points of the brow, outlines the shape, and make sure there isn’t one brow that will be bigger, smaller, or wider than the other.

In other words, mapping predicts the outcome of your microblading. This process can take up to an hour, which sounds like a lot but it’s worth the time you spend. Otherwise, you either end up with an unhappy client or you have to redo your work - neither of which is desirable!

3 - Use More than One Blade

There’s no single blade to rule them all. There are different blades made for different functions, some for crisper lines and others for better free flow. You don’t have to stick with the same blade for the whole process.

Before you start working on real eyebrows, take some time to experiment with different blades on test projects. Learn what they do, how to use each one, and what results you can expect.  This takes out the guesswork when you’re working on real eyebrows and can help streamline your entire process.

4 - Magnifiers and Lights Are Your Friends

Your incisions and strokes are tiny and you need the best visibility possible. Invest inmagnification and a headlamp to help you better see your work. This can help you ensure every move is precise and accurate and improve your overall process.

5 - Use Pre-Strokes to Test Your Results

It’s critical to get your clients’ buy-in during the process, but once you start microblading, there’s no going back.  Instead, make a pre-stroke in the place where you’re thinking about placing a stroke, then ask the client what they think. There’s no incision, so worst case scenario you can remove the pre-stroke and try again.  It doesn’t take much longer to do this extra step, and it could make a major impact on the entire microblading process.

6 - Educate Your Client on Aftercare

When you’ve finished your last stroke, your microblading service isn’t finished yet. Brow care is just as important as the actual process, so make sure your clients know what to expect.

You’ll need to be expert on how clients should care for their eyebrows at home during healing:

● Avoid getting the area wet for the first week or two after the treatment.

● Avoid applying makeup to the area until it heals.

● Keep hair away from the brow line.

● Avoid using common products like Bepanthan or Salvon that can actually dry out the incisions and lead to scabbing or color loss.

● Avoid swimming, saunas, or any activities that result in excessive sweat until the brows heal.

It’s helpful to create an at-home care sheet that clients can take with them.

As a professional, you may want to stock your store with quality aftercare products to boost

your sales and give your clients the best end results.

7 - The Mother of All Microblading Tips: Invest in the Right Microblading Tools

Having the right microblading tools in your arsenal can mean the difference between a client saying “Wow!” and a client saying “That works.” Seriously, if people are actually spending money to get their eyebrow game strong, then you better be able to deliver.

Start by having the right brand of pigments. We talked about the importance of color swatching in Tip #1, so make sure you have the right pigments to create a color that matches your client’s needs.

Also, invest in a variety of blade sizes with comfortable handles that make it easy for you to work with. Once you become an eyebrow overlord, you’ll have these tools in your hands more often and can’t let hand fatigue or cramping slow you down.
